The Diary of Node 6444
09/01/2010 Another 18 months passes and the old P166 is still ticking away.
The transceiver died a few months ago but was brought back to life by Don VK4MC.
Finally moved the node from the P166 to a super fast P111 that has been sitting here in the shack waiting for so long that I can't even remember who gave it to me. I think it was Lorne VK4TLB.
At the same time upgrading the O/S from Redhat 9 to Ubuntu 8.04.
16/07/2007 Well the node is 3 years old and the old P166 is still ticking away Node has been down a bit recently but that has been a problem with the inferface between the chair and the keyboard not the node.
21/07/2004 Add a script to play back the DTMF codes when and invalid sequence of tones is entered.
18/07/2004 The 70cm repeater is still giving us problems so the node radio has been changed to allow connections without the need for the 123 Hz tone. This means that you those of you who have a better signal directly to the node radio ( QTH of Rob VK4RB in Douglas) are now able to transmit directly to it on 438.225 and listen on 433.225 or still listen to the output of the repeater on 438.225.
However as the tone was required for reflector use, connections to reflectors has been disabled until the problem up the hill has been fixed.
03/07/2004 Don, VK4MC added CTCSS to 70cm repeater.
Connections to reflectors has been enabled again
26/06/2004 Connected a 7Amp Power Supply donated by Kerry,VK4TUB. Node is now running at 25 watts.
25/06/2004 Connection to reflectors has been disabled until mods are made to the repeater.
Direct Connection to other nodes is available though.
Replaced the vertical whip with a 10 element yagi donated by Og, VK4ZZ.
Still running at 1 watt output until a new PS is sourced.
22/06/2004 Node 6444 is ALIVE. Connection to reflectors has been disabled until modifications are made to the repeater.
19/06/2004 Testing has begun. With the help of Don and Gavin we have set the node to radio audio level. We seem to have a problem with receiving an echo back from the echo reflector when we try to set the radio to node audio. We know we have a link from other nodes to us, but unfortunately no link from us to them yet, so the conversation will be a bit one sided.
15/06/2004 Thanks to Don, VK4MC, we have a radio connected to the IRLP box. Now the fun starts.
06/06/2004 Submitted Node Details to the IRLP Database
03/06/2004 Modified the firewall rules to open irlp audio and control ports
01/06/2004 TARC is officially Node 6444. All that is left on the host side is to configure the firewall and set sound levels. (I think) Don VK4MC might have to make some mods to the transceiver and we'll need to put up a bit of wet string then we should be ready for the acid test.
01/06/2004 Replaced the ISA sound card with a PCI card. Not a model that has been tested but it appears to be working ok. Won't know until we get a to test it I guess.
31/05/2004 Almost there. Still a problem loading sound modules.
31/05/2004 Well I though everything was ok until I noticed that the IRLP box dropped off the face of the planet every now and then. Peter, VK2YX logged in to configure the box for me and I rebooted to disable the power save on the motherboard. Well that stuffed his install up, but at least the box has stayed in the land of the living since disabling the power saving. (touch wood).
Pete logged in again only to find, or should I say not find, a parallel port, so here we go again. Found the soundcard on IRQ7,same as LPT. Changed the soundcard to 5.
28/05/2004 Was getting write errors on the 4 Gb SCSI drive so removed the drive and replaced it with a 14Gb IDE drive.
Of course this meant re-installing and configuring Redhat 9. Anyway plenty of disc space now.
22/04/2004 Well the PC is sitting here with RedHat 9 loaded.
What now ?
