Node Guidelines
Do's
  • Before trying to connect to a node, please identify yourself on the repeater as you would normally, and then give the node you wish to call
    For Example:
"VK4RB for node 6920" or "VK4RB connecting to node 6920"
Then enter the node code you wish to call and wait for the voice ID confirming the connection or a message explaining why you can't connect. e.g 'node busy'.
  • Once connected ALWAYS LISTEN for 15 to 30 secs. to make sure you are not breaking into a QSO
  • ALWAYS wait a couple of seconds after pushing the PTT before speaking to allow for propagation delays across the Internet.
  • Announce your intention to close the node before disconnecting
    For Example:
"This is VK4RB disconnecting from node 6920"
Dont's
  • Don't call CQ as you would on HF. You are more than likely connected to a repeater at the other node and it is not necessary to call CQ for 30 seconds hoping someone might be scanning the frequencies.
A simple "CQ from Townsville, This is VK4RB calling CQ. Is anyone available for a contact" is more than enough.
You can be pretty sure the listeners heard you on the first call so if a second call doesn't get them to pick up the mic you might as well give up.
  • Don't connect to a node and then disconnnect without announcing yourself and making a call.
We all know how annoying it is when someone continually keys up the repeater just for the sake of it, so you can imagine what a busy node would sound like if all you heard was connect and disconnect messages from other nodes. (I'd turn my rig off).
